Verses on Food -
For
the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness
and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Whoever thus serves Christ is acceptable
to God and approved by men. (Romans 14:17-18 ESV)
Food
will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better
off if we do. (1 Corinthians 8:8 ESV)
Now
the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith
by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through
the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, who forbid marriage and
require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving
by those who believe and know the truth. For everything created by God is good,
and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is
made holy by the word of God and prayer.
(1 Timothy 4:1-5 ESV)
Christ once and for
all –
For
since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true
form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are
continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. Otherwise,
would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once
been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? But in these
sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is impossible for the
blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
Consequently,
when Christ came into the world, he said,
“Sacrifices
and offerings you have not desired,
but
a body have you prepared for me;
in
burnt offerings and sin offerings
you
have taken no pleasure.
Then
I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,
as
it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’”
When
he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and
offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according
to the Law), then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away
with the first in order to establish the second. And by that will we have been
sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. (Hebrews
10:1-10 ESV)
We cannot worship
angels -
And
the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the
marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of
God.” Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must
not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the
testimony of Jesus. Worship God.”
(Revelation 19:9-10 ESV)
I,
John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them,
I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me, but he
said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your
brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship
God.”
(Revelation 22:8-9 ESV)
Gospel passages -
But to all who did receive Jesus,
who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were
born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but
of God. So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has
mercy. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own
doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
For God saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but
according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy
Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so
that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope
of eternal life.
