On Trusting What God Has Revealed & Rejecting What He Hasn't

Ambrose of Milan, one of the great theologians of the early Church gives us some sage advice in De Vocatione Gentium, Bk. 17 that we would be wise to heed today:
“The things which God wishes to be hidden are not to be examined; and the things which He has made manifest are not to be rejected, lest we as ingrates be improperly curious toward the former and damnably ungrateful for the latter.”
In other words, beware of today's Post-Modern mystics who claim that they're being given "new truths" by the workings of the Holy Spirit. When you take the time to compare their nudges, whispers, dreams and visions to the written word of God what you'll discover is that these folks are not getting "new truths" from God but are instead being fed the same old lies the devil has been spewing from the beginning of human history.
